The “Butterflies of Freedom” Initiative at Hod Center – Leisure Culture Center for Senior Citizens
The “Butterflies of Freedom” initiative is not just a creative endeavor, but also a moving call for unity and hope. As part of this national initiative, volunteers from across the country knit yellow butterflies from wool and cotton threads with a single knitting needle – a symbol of freedom and the aspiration to bring the hostages home. Each butterfly is sold at the symbolic price of 15 NIS, and all proceeds are transferred to the Hostages Families Headquarters, out of mutual responsibility and uncompromising support.
“Hod Center” took an active and passionate part in the initiative, recruiting experienced knitters alongside those wishing to learn the craft of knitting. CLICK Association generously donated the necessary wool, and thus, about 100 dedicated women skillfully and lovingly knitted yellow butterflies in various sizes – for pins, magnets, and key chains. All this was done under the guidance of multidisciplinary artist Ariela Nachshon, who was the source of inspiration and strength behind this wonderful project.
The seniors from “Netaim” Club also contributed their part, lovingly and meticulously packaging the butterflies. This activity not only gave them a sense of purpose and satisfaction but also empowered them, strengthened their sense of self-worth, and emphasized their ability to contribute to a noble cause.
The “Butterflies of Freedom” initiative is a testament to the power of connecting hearts – creativity, giving, and hope combined in an inspiring flight toward a better future.
