Café Europa – A Club for Holocaust Survivors
Café Europa is a club for Holocaust survivors, managed by Tami Mazor and operated in collaboration with the Lions “Lev Ari” Club, WIZO, Eshel, and the local municipality.
The club offers a variety of activities, including lectures, physical activity, music, intergenerational programs, as well as holiday and birthday celebrations.
Café Europa was established on September 1, 2010, as part of a joint initiative between the Hod HaSharon Municipality, the Click Association, and the Lions “Lev Ari” Club of Hod HaSharon.
In 2010, it was found that approximately 500 Holocaust survivors were living in the city, creating a need for a dedicated social space for people with a shared background and collective memories.
The name “Café Europa” originates from a café of the same name in Malmö, Sweden, where survivors met after World War II. There, they danced, drank coffee, and ate strudel. A board was placed on the door with the names of people who were being searched for. The café became a central meeting point for locating missing relatives, and indeed many found their loved ones there-some even met future spouses.
At Café Europa in Hod HaSharon, the goal is to preserve the spirit of the original place through gatherings over coffee, cakes, and dancing.
